All of the updates to the Microsoft 365 services can be found in your admin centre, but here is a summary of the important changes from the last week.
SharePoint: default page templates
Default page templates allow site owners to set a default template for all editors who are creating pages and news on their site.
The default template will be pre-selected when an editor opens the template picker. However, they will have the option to select a different template before they create their page.
This feature was announced back in June but put on hold – it will now be rolling out starting mid-August.
Outlook: Cloud settings delayed
A new feature coming soon to Outlook has had to be delayed: the ability to store settings in the cloud.
This will allow settings to be synchronised across multiple devices, which is great for people who use multiple computers regularly.
Unfortunately this has been delayed until late September, but will be a great feature when it lands!
Update your phone number in your profile
If you need to call Microsoft support, and you do it from a number not registered to your account, they will now send you a pin number to your registered email or phone to verify your identity.
To make this as seamless as possible, you should ensure your contact details are up to date so you can avoid this requirement.
It will be possible to schedule pages and news posts to be published at a specific date and time. This feature will be disabled by default but can be enabled by site owners.
The role out will be taking place at the end of August.
Outlook on the web: Inbox full notification
If you use Outlook on the Web and you go over 90% of your storage limit you’ll notice a warning in the bottom left.
If you get to 100% you will not longer be able to send or receive email messages until you free up storage, so hopefully this 90% warning will prevent you from filling up your mailbox.
OneDrive: Removing Discover View
The “Discover” view in OneDrive web is being removed.
Instead, you can use Search to find files across your organisation.
