Microsoft 365 Updates

Microsoft 365 Updates – Week Ending 4th July 2020

Teams support for Android 4.4 Ending

Anyone still running Android 4.4 will find that Teams will not work anymore, as support is ending. Android 4.4 was called “KitKat” and hasn’t received a security update for 5 years, so if you are still using it then it’s definitely time to upgrade!

Microsoft Teams Large Gallery View

Large gallery view provides a new way to view video from up to 49 participants on a single screen. It will automatically arrange videos into a 7×7 grid. This is being released initially as a public preview so will need opting in to, with a view to being released fully throughout July/August.

Tasks for Outlook on the Web

The new tasks experience in Outlook on the Web is moving to general availability throughout July/August.

This helps users to plan better and get more done using smart lists, powered by To Do. A list sharing feature allows users to collaborate with friends, family and colleagues. Features include:

  • Advanced formatting options within notes, such as tables and images;
  • Private tasks;
  • Priority levels;
  • Task statuses;
  • Start and end dates;
  • Completion percentages;
  • Work hours

Rename title column in SharePoint list

The first column in a SharePoint list is called title, and you’ve never been able to rename it – until now! Microsoft are finally adding the feature to rename it, rolling out throughout July.

Automatically block guest access to new OneDrive and SharePoint files until scans are complete

When new files are added to SharePoint or OneDrive in Microsoft 365, it takes time for them to be crawled and indexed. It then takes additional time for a Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policy to scan the content and apply rules to protect sensitive content.

With this new rule, all files will be treated as sensitive until they have been scanned and the rules have been applied, ensuring there isn’t a small period of time where files are accessible to guests before they have the DLP policy applied.
