Microsoft 365 Updates

Microsoft 365 Updates – Week Ending 23rd August 2020

Updates: Sync to Planner

All of your Microsoft 365 updates, which can be found in your admin centre under Health -> Messages, can now be synchronised to Microsoft Planner.

This is great, as it means you can track the one’s which matter to you, as well as setting deadlines and assigning any tasks which may need you to take action.

Just head to the message centre, click the new button and set up the planner integration.

Of course, we will still be providing this plain English summary each week of the things that matter the most.

SharePoint: Automatically revoke guest access

Admin center

With this new feature tenant admins will be able to set all guest access to OneDrive or SharePoint items to expire after a pre-defined number of days.

This is a great enhancement to security, stopping old links to files remaining active indefinitely.

This is an opt-in feature, which must be enabled globally by a tenant administrator.

Teams: New meeting pre-join experience

Pre-join experience

The meeting pre-join experience is changing soon.

This new view makes it much easier to select the audio and video choices going into a meeting.

OneDrive: New sync message

The sync error message is changing to a much more descriptive error, so that users can understand why sync errors occur.

Power BI: Search

search example

Searches within and SharePoint will now include search results from Power BI, making your data even more accessible and the search even more universal.

Microsoft 365: Retiring support for IE 11

Microsoft are going to stop supporting Internet Explorer 11 for Microsoft 365 applications. This means you will need to switch to another supported browser, such as Edge, Google Chrome, Firefox, etc.

Two dates for your diary:

  • Nov 30th 2020: Microsoft Teams will no longer be supported on IE 11
  • Aug 17th 2020: The rest of Microsoft 365 will not support IE 11.
